Jumanji sequel: All you need to know about the Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart film

There's a new Jumanji film on the way.

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has unveiled the first official photo from filming on the upcoming Jumanji sequel, showcasing Johnson and his costars in costume on set.

The photo, posted by Johnson on Instagram, showcases main characters Moose Finbar (Kevin Hart), Dr. Smolder Bravestone (Johnson), Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan), and Professor Shelly Oberon (Jack Black).

The 1995 film starred  Robin Williams was centered around a mystical board game that transported players to a magical realm.

This is what we know about the film so far:

The Rock had taken to Instagram to suggest that the upcoming film is not a reboot of the original film; rather a continuation of the original Jumanji story.

He also put up another Instagram post that suggested that the film will honor Robin Williams and his character his character Alan Parrish "will stand alone and be forever immortalized in the world of Jumanji."

Johnson also recounted the tale of when he first met Robin Williams. 'I also think Robin is somewhere lookin' down and laughing, remembering the first time we met backstage and I (for the first time ever) was a star struck bumbling idiot that couldn't even get my words out.'

And the #JUMANJI magic begins. Excellent meeting with our director Jake Kasdan, producer Matt Tolmach, and our @SevenBucksProd team to work on our new re-imagining of this amazing story. I felt like in order to craft something cool we should begin where it all started. Award winning writer Chris Van Allsburg's source material of JUMANJI. Chris also wrote THE POLAR EXPRESS (later adapted by Robert Zemeckis and Tom Hanks) and has a very special & magical way of storytelling. I'm feelin' good and confident stepping into these shoes as a producer as well as actor to bring you something great that you and your entire fam can enjoy. An important thing that I want to be honest and bring up is Robin Williams. The love and respect I have for this man is boundless. You have my word, we will honor his name and the character of "Alan Parrish" will stand alone and be forever immortalized in the world of JUMANJI in an earnest and cool way. I have an idea of what to do and I think his family will be proud. I also think Robin is somewhere lookin' down and laughing, remembering the first time we met backstage and I (for the first time ever) was a star struck bumbling idiot that couldn't even get my words out. Idiot. He literally calmed me down w/ that smile and laugh. But that's for another fun story down the road. We got a great team assembled already over at our home base of SONY and now we build from here. Here's another fun part... in the original movie there were three big roles. In our new story there's now FIVE. Been so damn cool to see all my actor buddies push their projects aside so hopefully they can come play in our world. Should have cool casting announcements this week. Will keep you posted. #TheMagicBegins #JustPressStart #JUMANJI

Johnson also released a first look photo of the upcoming film, which is to be directed by Jake Kasdan (who directed Bad Teacher). The photo caused quite a storm on Twitter because of actress Karen Gillan (lack of) attire in the photo.

Twitter took a potshot at the lack of clothes that the lead actress is wearing, with tweets like:

Johnson did do his part, because he left a comment beneath his Instagram post anticipating the internet's outrage:'Her jungle wardrobe will make sense when you know the plot. Trust me.'

He also released this one video from the behind the scenes filming process yesterday:

Another film that was inspired by Jumanji was the 2005 Zathura, which did not do very well at the box-office. The film was based on a book by Jumanji author Chris Van Allsburg and was sold as 'A new adventure from the world of Jumanji'.

Johnson's Jumanji sequel is set to release on 28 July , 2017.
