Aug 30, 2013

One of the most financially successful hip-hop artists and entrepreneurs in America, rapper Jay Z launched the video of his latest single Holy Grail on Facebook. This video became the first clip by any major music star to premiere on the social networking site.

Directed by Anthony Mandler the video also features Justin Timberlake. Timberlake has also contributed to the song alone with Jay Z.  The song is from Jay Z's album Magna Carta Holy Grail.

After the video was posted on Jay Z's facebook page yesterday, it garnered 225711 likes from his fans. Billboard.biz quoted Nick Grudin, head of content partnerships for Facebook, saying, "What we’re doing with Jay Z today is really exciting and we think emblematic of the evolution of music and how musicians can connect with their fans."

While Jay Z could have launched his music on any other social platform, he chose Facebook because of the strong fan following that he and Timberlake enjoyed on the site. Jay Z has 17 million followers on his facebook page while Timberlake has 25 million.
