Actor Sohail Khan today said his chauffeur might not have seen the 70-year-old woman he ran over and clarified he was not in the car at the time of the incident.
“There are eyewitnesses there who have said they did not see me in the vehicle. It is my car and I admit to that but I was not in the vehicle,” Khan told reporters today.
Khan’s driver, Dhananjay Pimple, was arrested and later released on bail of Rs 10,000 after he ran over and killed a homeless woman in the northwest suburb of Bandra late on Sunday night. When asked why the driver had not taken the victim to a hospital, Khan said,”He didn’t realise that he had hit a person.”
“Because of the rain, the lady must have had a plastic sheet or something covering her due to which he may not have seen her,” he said.
The actor said Pimple had gone to eat dinner and was on his way back to Khan’s residence when the incident took place. He also said they had attempted to find the next of kin of the victim but had not been able to find anyone yet.
Salman Khan, who had been accused in a case of hit and run in the past, also said that the driver thought it was only a plastic sheet and didn’t know a woman was in it.
“It feels that the woman’s family must have removed her from home and she was on the streets. Don’t know why these things happen,” he said.
“We are seeing what formalities to be done. I will tweet it once we find out who the woman is. We will pay after three months for the funeral proceedings if needed,” Salman said.
I hope her family comes to claim the body, the actor said adding,”I will not pay them any compensation because they had removed her from her home due to which the incident took place.”
