It seems there's more to the film on "Indo-Pak peace" that was supposed to star Fawad Khan than meets the eye.
This week, reports in some publications had quoted a filmmaker by the name of Harsh Narayan as saying he would be making a film to promote peace between India and Pakistan.
Narayan, whose Facebook page says he works at a Delhi-based firm called Dragons Lab, was described in news reports as having "played a pivotal role in strengthening Pakistan-India ties over the last 15 years".
The project, tentatively titled Yeh Raste Hain Pyar Ke, was — according to Narayan being produced by Shyam Benegal. It would have Mahesh Bhatt as the creative adviser, Fawad Khan as the lead actor and "chronicle the journey of two musicians who tour the two warring countries during which they discover themselves".
"At the moment, he (Fawad) is skeptical about reactions to him working in an Indo-Pak co-production. He has shown a keen interest and will respond as soon as the present situation cools down. We are hoping he agrees to play the lead musician in the film," Narayan told Mumbai Mirror.
However, it now seems that the project doesn't really have the associations Narayan has claimed it does.
Shyam Benegal told entertainment website Spotboye that her certainly was not producing Narayan's film, adding that he had made his disinterest evident to the latter.
"Is this how he uses my goodwill to having merely spoken to him? I could understand if he wanted to involve me for mere consultancy to help him out, but I had clearly told him that I don't want to be professionally associated with his film in any capacity," Benegal said.
Benegal described Narayan as a "young man who is a bit too persistent and has used my name as a producer for his film which I am definitely not producing".
Meanwhile, Narayan has been sharing links to various news reports about his proposed film with Benegal and Fawad Khan.
But seeing what Shyam Benegal has to say on the subject, perhaps it would be safe to assume that Khan too, would have a similar experience to narrate.
