Having released on Thursday, 7 July, the buzz around Antham peaked — but not for the best reasons.
Controversies have dogged the film for a while now, which was in the making for several years, before finally seeing a much delayed release.
A few weeks ago, the film's trailer was in the news: apparently, its actors were upset that Antham was being depicted as an erotic film, when it was actually a suspense thriller.
It was said that the lead actors even opted out of promoting their film because of this 'misrepresentation'.
But in the run-up to Antham's release, the film's female lead Rashmi Gautam was vocal about her displeasure with director Kalyan. In an interview with Deccan Chronicle, Rashmi said that she accepted Antham because the content was good. However, after the film was completed, she claims she wasn't even told when the first look would release.
The film's makers, on the other hand, have claimed that the actress was "unnecessarily involved" in production related matters, and that she made unreasonable demands that a song be re-shot in Goa.
As the two parties continue to make allegations against one another, the timing is curious of course — right when the Antham release needs some visibility. But will it bring more audiences to the theatres?
