As the Hrithik Roshan-Kangana Ranaut legal wrangle plays out in the press, various reports have pointed out Hrithik’s reluctance to star opposite Kangana in Aashiqui 3 as the trigger for this entire episode. While neither Hrithik nor Kangana ever confirmed if they had been approached for the project, there was speculation that Hrithik “threw a fit” when he found out that Kangana was being considered to feature opposite him, and ultimately, had her removed from the project.
Hrithik and Kangana aren’t the only rumoured couple to have had issues with working together after things soured. In recent times, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif too have reportedly had a tough time, filming the remaining portions of Jagga Jasoos after they split up. Indeed, while working with someone you’ve had a relationship with in the past can’t be the pleasantest of things for most people, for actors the problem is perhaps magnified, as they’re expected to portray emotions and situations they’d rather not at that point of time. But that’s just where the most superior acting skills are called for we guess.
Several actors in Bollywood have managed to put their acrimonious past behind them and teamed up for projects. Here’s a look at some of them:
Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone
They were once the ‘golden couple’ in B-town, and acted together in Bachna Ae Haseeno when they were still a couple. After they went their separate ways, Deepika took a few digs at Ranbir’s expense, including saying on a chat show that she’d like to gift Ranbir a “box of condoms” (referring perhaps to his Casanova image). But the duo buried the figurative hatchet and went on to star in several highly appreciated films together, including Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Tamasha.
Ranveer Singh-Anushka Sharma
Another B’wood pair that has worked together both when they were reportedly dating, and after they broke up. Ranveer and Anushka starred in Band, Baajaa, Baraat and Ladies Vs Ricky Behl when they were supposedly an item. But then both actors were believed to move on to other relationships — Anushka was linked with Virat Kohli while Ranveer is rumoured to be romancing Deepika Padukone. That, however, doesn’t seem to have spoilt Ranveer and Anushka’s onscreen equation any, for it was warm and natural in Zoya Akhtar’s Dil Dhadakne Do.
Shahid Kapoor-Kareena Kapoor
Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor may have stopped being a couple but that hasn’t stopped them from teaming up for Udta Punjab. Now we must add that the duo does not have too many scenes together, but Shahid and Kareena have been nothing but professional in their behaviour towards each other in public. Shahid even talked about how much he respected Kareena as an actress. Incidentally, Shahid and Kareena were working together in Jab We Met when they split towards the end of the shoot.
Salman Khan-Katrina Kaif
It’s perhaps worth noting that Salman Khan has continued to have cordial equations with most of his former flames — including Sangeeta Bijlani, who is still seen at all of the Khan family’s events — and Somy Ali. With Aishwarya Rai, it was a different story. And with Katrina Kaif, yet another one: While Slaman has faced a lot of flak for teasing Katrina mercilessly and making jokes at her expense after they reportedly broke up, he did work with her in Ek Tha Tiger. And by all B’wood accounts, it was pretty smooth sailing.
Akshay Kumar-Shilpa Shetty
This onetime couple did not return for a film project, but for a business venture. Akshay Kuamr and Shilpa Shetty hadn’t been cast together on screen after their break up, and even in theirpersonal lives, had moved in different directions. Akshay got married to Twinkle Khanna while Shilpa tied the knot with Raj Kundra. Last year, however, Shilpa, Raj and Akshay came together to announce a new entrepreneurial venture, a home shopping channel.
