After the serial blasts, Bollywood’s famous faces shared the anguish of the bereaved and the injured. Some, as a mark of respect, cancelled felicitations being held in their honour and others cancelled promotions for upcoming releases. Shah Rukh Khan, who was holidaying in London after the IIFA awards in Toronto, landed in Mumbai today afternoon with wife Gauri and kids Aryan and Suhana, prior to which he tweeted: “En route india and mumbai…I am devastated and saddened by the loss in my city. May Allah bless us..want to be there as quickly as possible.” [caption id=“attachment_41653” align=“alignleft” width=“380” caption=“SRK at the airport. Raju Shelar/Firstpost”] [/caption] Priyanka Chopra who is away in the US also took to Twitter and did her bit by requesting people not to spread rumours and false news to cause even more panic. She wrote: “I’m so saddened by whats happened in mumbai.. my heart wrenches at the though of what the families of the victims r going thru..its so wrong. why do we have to always accept this terrorism..why r we always told to move on.. I WONT STAND FOR TERROR ANYMORE..and i WILL NOT FORGET! i wish i was back in my city to share this grief.. MUMBAI MERI JAAN..!!!!!” Amitabh Bachchan, along with daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan, was in New Delhi for a day where Aishwarya was to be awarded a French honour. But, the Bachchans cancelled the event. Amitabh Bachchan tweeted: “We express our ‘sympathy’ and ‘prayer’ to those that suffer..what really is he going to do with it? it will not reinvent day for him. Yes we are all hurt and sad and frustrated! But will sympathy bring back the dead .. it merely rids us of the guilt of helplessness. The bombs did not just drop from the skies ! A human, like one of us put it. One of us who breathed and lived in Indian air. Get him!” Farhan Akhtar’s Don 2 trailer, which was to be launched yesterday, was also cancelled. Also, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, directed by his sister Zoya, is releasing tomorrow and the promotions — with all the stars of the film, Hrithik, Katrina Kaif and Farhan having gone on a road trip — that were in full swing prior to the blasts, have now gone quiet. Farhan Akhtar tweeted: “We can help the Mumbai police department by not spreading rumours. Let’s not make it harder for them.. They are out there doing their best. I hope the Central and State government wake up to Mumbai’s continuing woes and do something to help our city get it’s confidence back.” Other celebrities who voiced their anger and frustration at their city being held hostage repeatedly by miscreants were: Hrithik Roshan: @iHrithik: “Feeling sad, angry and helpless!I pray for the families of the victims. On a resilient note, I need to believe that der r some good leaders, some good men in position of power out there in the govt 2 guide this city, to do d right thing without getting entangled in the web of politics! Wherever u are pls come forth and fight for this city! Rectify the wrongs!show us the way!the common man needs assurance that u exist!! My MUMBAI needs YOU…. NOW!!” Bipasha Basu: @bipsluvurself: “In d garb of resilience v keep forgetting incidents lke this again n again! Its sad as noone is evr punished!Loss of life hs bcome a joke! We keep condemning acts of terrorism and that’s where the story ends everytime and repeats again! Its a shame!” Mallika Sherawat: @MallikaLA: “i started usin twitter after the 08 attacks to feel closer 2home whn i was away frm MotherIndia. my prayers4 all those effected :-( Jai Hind” Rishi Kapoor: The actor vented on his Facebook: “Wheres the use of changing the cabinet! We need to change the government! None of the old has beens but fresh new blood!”
Often accused of being self-indulgent and isolated, Bollywood stood up against another attack on Mumbai by cancelling promotions and felicitations.
