The trailer of Anurag Basu’s next film, Barfi, with it’s lilting music, that releases on 14 September, is a rage and it’s only just about been a week since the teaser aired.
The leading star of Barfi, Ranbir Kapoor has been the topic du jour ever since, despite Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’Cruz, who makes her debut in the film, starring alongside Kapoor in the film.
Interestingly, the soundtrack in Barfi’s teaser is very reminiscent of the award winning French film Amelie (2001), directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Though the storylines of both films, Barfi and Amelie, are worlds apart, the soundtrack is almost the same, if not exactly.
Amelie’s soundtrack was created by French avant-garde musician, Yann Pierre Tiersen and Barfi’s has been credited to Pritam. While it’s all well to be inspired from a film that the New York Times listed in “The Best 1000 movies Ever Made” it remains to be seen if the music was simply “inspired” from Amelie in its entirety or just in parts in the romantic comedy.
Of course, there will be reams of explanations on the inspiration and all the little musical notes that differ from Amelie’s soundtrack in the days to come. But then, Bollywood wouldn’t be Bollywood without its creative dramas, would it?
Watch both, the Barfi and Amelie trailers on Youtube and decide.
