Amitabh Bachchan's 'Pink' to be screened at the UN on special invitation

Amitabh Bachchan evoked goosebumps in the audience in Aniruddha Roy Chaudhary's Pink earlier this year, whether it was narrating an awe-inspiring poem during the end credits or while delivering the popular `NO means NO' dialogue sequence towards the end of the film.

The reason why the film, produced by Shoojit Sircar, resonated with the masses was not only because of Bachchan's baritone and emotionally charged performance but also because the film addressed an issue that concerns and disturbs both the masses and classes - women harassment.

The film was also projected as a medium to educate as it made the audience aware of the zero FIR or the provision in the law that allows women, children and the elderly to file for bail in certain non-bailable warrants. The film was inspiring to a T as the three women in the film made for strong resilient characters who refuse to back off in trying times.

The film was widely appreciated, by the audience and the critics alike. Now, it finds itself at the end of a special honour. Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations has extended a special invitation to the makers of Pink asking them to screen the film at the UN Headquarters in New York.

Bachchan himself broke the news on Twitter and shared his child-like excitement through a tweet:

The producer of the film Sircar had always maintained prior to the release of the film that Pink was not just a film, rather a movement. The film did live up to the gravity of his statement as it was seen as a revolutionary film championing for the rights of women.

Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani's comedy Lage Raho Munnabhai was the first Hindi film to be screened at the UN. Now that Pink is the next one, Hindi cinema is sure to have gone several notches higher with the development.
