'Aamir and Salman are bigger stars than me': Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan has learnt his lesson from when he landed himself amid the intolerance controversy during his birthday last year. He doesn't want to make any 'mistake' again.

To make sure his views and opinions are not blown out of proportion, SRK now refrains from speaking on issues that are sensitive or controversial and he politely refused to comment on the recent terror bombings in Dhaka.

“Last year, on my birthday, I had made a simple comment that was blown out of proportion. So much so that I couldn’t even enjoy my birthday and I hold that against everyone,” said SRK on the occasion of Eid celebrations at his home, Mannat yesterday. Further stating that he had said nothing wrong then, SRK said while pleading, “Whatever I had said was a good thing. It was a decent thing. There was nothing religious about it or anything wrong. I was telling those things to the youth of our country. So please this time don’t ask such questions and spoil my Eid.”

However, Shah Rukh Khan was ready to share quite a few details about his forthcoming Bollywood projects this year and it was here that he confirmed that he will be starting Imtiaz Ali’s film with Anushka Sharma towards the end of August. “I wanted to do a happy film with him (Imtiaz Ali) because I am in that zone right now. I had really liked his Jab We Met. So yeah, he has a film for me. He has a different language of love. So yes, this is a love story but the film isn't based on Guide. But, keeping my age in mind now, this is not like a young upbeat love story. But he has a very nice take on it.”

He continued, “Post that, sometime in November, I start Aanand Rai's film. Along with that, I am in talks with a lot of people with whom I am discussing. They're all great directors, great friends of mine but they haven't been confirmed yet. Aanand Rai's film has not been cast yet but yes, I do play a dwarf in the film.” Shah Rukh Khan also confirmed that he and Aditya Chopra have been discussing few things with each other for a year now. “But they aren't the same as it's being written about,” he clarified. Few weeks back, there were reports that Shah Rukh Khan will be playing a warrior in Chopra's next.

As we all know, SRK's eagerly-awaited Raees—which was earlier slated to release this Eid—will now hit screens in January next. If things go as planned, it will end up clashing at the ticket window with Hrithik Roshan starrer Kaabil. As expected, this has created quite a buzz among trade pundits. Shah Rukh Khan opened up about this situation and stated that he has spoken about it to Rakesh Roshan as well as Hrithik about the same. “We will discuss it out. Ritesh, Farhan (Raees producers) and I will talk to them once they are back,” said the actor.

And it appears that Shah Rukh Khan’s taking keen interest in his son Aryan’s education in films. He’s been prepping up Aryan, who will be soon heading to a film school in California. Divulging details, SRK said, “I am showing Aryan a lot of films because he will be going to a film school now. I have made a folder which has all the great English classics like The Untouchables, Goodfellas and Michael Douglas’ Falling Down. For the moment, I am showing him English films. I have also made another folder that has Hindi classics like Sholay, Do Aakhen Barah Haath and Devdas — both Dilip Saab’s and mine. I want him to see more films and he does watch a lot of films including mine.”

When asked if Aryan would follow his legendary footsteps and become an actor in future, SRK said, “For the moment, my kids are following my footsteps as far as education goes. I had done my Masters and my kids are pursuing their graduation. As far as following my footsteps as an actor is concerned, it is up to them what they want to do and I will be happy with whatever their decision is.”

Since both his contemporaries, Salman and Aamir have been in news for their films on wrestling, one wondered whether Shah Rukh Khan, too, would ever attempt a film on the sport, and Shah Rukh Khan said with a laugh, “Both these Khans can handle wrestling, I don’t look like a wrestler from any angle. I can only love, romance and do romantic movies, I don’t know wrestling.”

When asked to comment on Aamir saying at the poster launch of Dangal, recently, that SRK and Salman were bigger stars than him, SRK said, “Between myself, Aamir and Salman, we have a huge liking towards each other and we all feel the same about the other two. I also feel that Aamir and Salman are bigger stars than me. If you ask Salman, he will also say the same thing. It is out of respect, we have known each other for 25 years now. The day I stepped into their houses and lives, they have been very kind. Aamir is showing respect and regard and he is being dignified. All three of us respect each other for what we have done.” He further added, “I loved the Dangal poster. I have been wanting to talk to Aamir.”

Of late, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman have been bonding big time. It was only a few days ago when the duo went cycling together on the streets of Bandra at the crack of dawn. "Usually Salman and I meet in the night after work. I went to his house at around 1:30 at night. Whenever we are together we never know when the dawn breaks. When I was leaving, Salman said let’s take a bike. He thought of being healthy early in the morning (laughs)." When asked if he knows there's a scene in Salman's film Sultan where he says he's a big fan of him, SRK, who has yet to see Sultan, smiled and said that he would meet Salman and thank him personally for that.

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan refuted rumours of watching the trailer of Karan Johar’s forthcoming Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (starring Ranbir Kapoor -Aishwarya Rai Bachchan-Anushka Sharma-Fawad Khan) and advising certain changes to Karan as reported in certain sections of the press. “I have not seen the trailer nor have I given any advise. Even if I think some changes were needed, I will not discuss it outside. I have only heard three songs from the film. Its title track is one of the nicest ballads you will hear this year.”
