Modi’s surprise post-Diwali gift to the nation with a ban on Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes have led people to rush to their nearest bank branches. When banks opened on Thursday morning, there were queues with some customers wanting to exchange the banned currency notes while others have come to withdraw money as ATMs are currently shut today. There were some who were here to deposit money.
Here’s Sanjay Patil from Prabhadevi, Mumbai who went to Bank of Maharashtra to withdraw money via cheque against his account for Rs 6,000. He expected to get Rs 100 notes for the amount but was surprised to get three notes in denomination of Rs 2,000. Patil said it took him as little as 15 minutes to get the cash. Though excited about the newly released currency, Patil was a little disappointed not to have Rs 100 notes as he had no money on hand.
Firstpost spotted him outside Axis bank, where he had come to withdraw some more money hoping to get Rs 100 notes. "I won't get any change for these Rs 2,000 notes and so I have come here," said Patil.
We don't know if Patil was able to get the Rs 100 notes that he was desperately looking out for or was he stuck with another bunch of Rs 2,000 notes!
