Instead of giving lectures on how Carlsen should behave, let me give you a lecture on how we should have reacted to his monumental win.

Appreciate Carlsen, don't lecture him about 'humility'

Editors note: This is a reader comment we got on the article, “Hope Anand still has interest and passion to make a comeback: Carlsen”. Ramesh Indian has written a thought provoking comment, reacting to the anger about Magnus Carlsen’s ’lack of humility’ after his win over Viswanathan Anand. As is Firstpost policy, we have edited for grammar and spelling, and removed some personal references directed at other readers. But the sentiment of the comment has been left as is. by Ramesh Indian A true sports lover applauds victory to whoever wins. Instead of giving lectures on how Carlsen should behave, let me give you a lecture on how we should have reacted to his monumental win. [caption id=“attachment_1250361” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Getty images](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/MagnusCarlsen-3-Getty1.jpg) Getty images[/caption] Just because you close your eyes the world does not cease to exist. Just because it pricks you, Carlsen does not get defeated. A sports lover should learn to applaud winners, whichever nationality they are from, and learn to distinguish between a sportsman’s success in the game and his personal idiosyncrasies. Pause and look back. If we put a microscope on Anand’s comments after matches you will find even more supposedly ’ego’ filled comments. No need to go far too back in history. Only a few days ago, if I may say, Vishy with full headed arrogance asked reporters “Do you not know English”. What do you have to say that ? Is that a model of the humility you are preaching Carlsen about ?? An inability to appreciate Carlsen’s win will prevent us from enjoying chess and sports. Better let go of *your* ego and come with a non-judgmental heart to enjoy the game. And if you have the spine, stand up and applaud Carlsen’s win, instead of withdrawing to a corner and whining hypocritically about ‘humility’ and grudging Carlsen his well earned, crystal clear dominance over Anand.
