Frankly speaking, C6 Chevrolet Corvette hitting 330.8 kmph is not a big deal. The older Bugatti Veyron broke that barrier a long time ago (408.84 kmph) and now it even has a more powerful successor, the Chiron, that will try and accomplish the same. The point here is that this is not your usual brawny V8 Corvette, it is a prototype all-electric vehicle and it just broke the land speed record! The car broke the world record for the ’top speed street legal electric car’ for a standing mile at 330.8 kmph. What this also means is that Tesla should be a bit worried that the competition is heating up, not just from automotive brands, but startups as well.
While most motoring enthusiasts would cringe at the thought of an electric Corvette (minus that growling V8 engine), Genovation, a startup based in Rockville, Maryland thought of it as a ready made aero dynamic donor chassis for their all-electric setup. The GXE’s speed record was certified by the International Mile Racing Association. It beat a previously held record of 300.6kmh, which oddly, was also broken by the same car model. Going into the specifics, Genovation’s GXE is powered by a battery management system, inverters, electric motors and of course the batteries. The electric motors produce a combined output of 700hp and 813 newton meters of torque. We recently reported an electric van called ‘Edna’ that beat a Ferrari California and a Tesla Model S with its 900hp all-wheel drive system. While Edna was simply built to test the Atieva’s capabilities, Genovation has some other figures to show as well. The company claims that when not pushed to the extremes, the same C6 offers a range of 209km on a single charge. The C6 Corvette’s chassis and design along with its 50:50 front to rear weight distribution also helps.
