Photos: Awaiting death and nirvana at Salvation House, Varanasi

The city of Varanasi, on the banks of the River Ganges, is widely considered Hinduism's holiest city and many Hindus believe that dying there and having their remains scattered in the Ganges allows their soul to escape a cycle of death and rebirth, attaining "moksha" or salvation. "Mukti Bhavan" or "Salvation House", is a charity-run hostel that caters for people who wish to come to Varanasi to die. Guests can normally stay up to two weeks after which, if they haven't yet passed away, they are gently asked to leave. #Cremation #death #Ganga #ImagesOfTheDay #Nirvana #old age #Salvation House #Varanasi

Photos: The annual San Fermin bull-running festival in Pamplona, Spain

A fighting bull gored two Australians and a Spaniard, spreading panic in a hair-raising final running of the bulls at Spain's San Fermin festival Monday. Hundreds of people dashed alongside the six half-ton beasts and their accompanying steer through the cobblestone streets of Pamplona in the eighth run. Dozens of people are injured each year in the "encierros," as the runs are called in Spanish, most of them in falls. #Bull fighting #Bull running #ImagesOfTheDay #Pamplona #San Fermin Bull Running festival #Spain

Captain Diego Godin scored in the 81st minute as Uruguay edged 10-man Italy 1-0 Tuesday to reach the second round of the World Cup, although the victory was overshadowed by a biting incident involving the South American side's star forward Luis Suarez. It was only one of many ugly incidents in a highly physical "in or out" match at the Arena das Dunas.
